Andrew joined Cross Refrigeration as a refrigeration engineer in 1980, and has risen to the rank of Managing Director Northern Ireland and Company Group Director. Cross Refrigeration is a large and growing Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Company which designs, installs and services Refrigeration and Air Conditioning equipment for Commercial and Industrial use throughout the world.

International Rallying

Andrew made his International rallying debut in 1985. Since then he has won more than 30 rallies and is now ranked no.1 in Irish motorsport at International level, and in the top 4 in the British Isles behind such international names such as Colin McCrae, Richard Burns and Alistair McCrea.

His first International win, was at the Shell Donegal International Rally in 1996, and his victory there was hailed as "one of the finest drives ever seen on the event!".

Andrew teamed up with James O'Brien in 1998. This new team proved to be very successful, achieving three 3rds, one 2nd and a 1st, to take 2nd overall in the Irish Tarmac Championship in 1999. They then went on to prove that they were indeed an unbeatable team by convincingly winning 4 out of the 5 rally events in 2000, to take the Irish Tarmac Championship Title. It was during this run of wins that Andrew and James set new records, by finishing fastest through every stage over the 3 day Donegal International Rally.

In addition to Championship rallies, Andrew uses the 'rally theme' for various fundraising events, and throughout this year would have raised around £500,000 for different charities.

World Rallying

Andrew and James fulfilled one of their ambitions when they competed in their debut World Rally in February 2004. Not only did they move up to World Level, but they took on arguably one of the most difficult rounds - The Swedish World Rally - 3 days driving on the snow and ice packed stages.

Conquering a specialist event like the Swedish Rally is a memorable moment for any driver and his team, but Andrew's 28th place (5th overall amongst Privateers) was also fantastic for all his long standing team sponsors and his many supporters.

Andrew was quoted as saying "I'm glad we took this challenge on and managed to make it all the way to the end, everyone in our team did a superb job for the whole three days, and the car that McKinstry Motorsport prepared performed faultlessly - I'm absolutely thrilled"

Andrew's aims and objectives for the future;

»To introduce our team and sponsors in to the World Rally Championship.

»To continue to promote safety both within rallying and indeed on public roads.
